Inauguration of Library and Senior Citizens' Gathering Center in Ward 4

We are honestly fulfilling the responsibility given by the people — Mayor Shakya
A library and a senior citizens' gathering center have been inaugurated at Naya Colony in Ward 4 of Kathmandu Metropolis. These services were started after protecting and utilizing public land. Federal Parliament Member and CPN (UML) Senior Vice Chairperson Ishwar Pokhrel, along with Kathmandu Metropolis Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya, jointly inaugurated the facility today. Prior to the inauguration, they inspected the infrastructure development works carried out in the area, including Jalpadevi Marg, Shivapriya Marg, Namaste Colony, Nav Tol Sudhar Samiti, and Rara Samaj. During the visit, they inspected works such as road blacktopping and concreting, boundary wall construction, and CCTV camera installations.
Speaking at the program, Federal Parliament Member and CPN (UML) Senior Vice Chairperson Pokhrel noted that protecting public land to build a public library and a gathering place for senior citizens is of great significance. "Working for the public good is the responsibility of political leadership. Ward 4 has carried out work of this exact nature. Sitting in the Federal Parliament, I have also supported the ward's plans," he said.
Speaking during the occasion, Metropolis Mayor Shakya stated that he is honestly fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him by the people through elections. "We cannot build Kathmandu as a brand-new city. We have to manage it as it is. To make it balanced, we have done much more than what we promised during the elections." Speaking about the projects completed, Mayor Shakya also addressed the works that could not be accomplished. "We had said we would operate a monorail along the Ring Road. Since the Ring Road expansion was not completed, the plan could not be implemented. We had said we would build a park in Tinkune. Since the compensation process to be completed by the District Administration Office was not finished, the plan could not move forward."
Ward 4 has protected around 72 ropanis of public land, where 14 parks have been constructed. Ward Chairperson Mohan Bahadur Bista said, "As soon as we start working to protect public land, we immediately face legal suits." According to Ward Chairperson Bista, there was an initial goal to operate a fire brigade service at the spot where the library has now been built, but the plan had to be altered due to insufficient space.
Stating that they received the opportunity to serve after being endorsed once by the people, Ward Members Dhruva Tripathi and Dinesh Maharjan requested local residents to evaluate their performance and grant them the opportunity to make further improvements.
